Like it a lot looks awesome drive awesome overall perfect Specialized brand for any rider)
I own the 2013 base model Hardrock, and not only did it get me into exercise & fitness, but it introduced me to the world of mountain biking. The model available here has disc breaks (better stopping power), but seems relatively unchanged from the classic model. The Hardrock really handles abuse well as I've taken it on both trails and the pothole infested streets of L.A. I have no interest in ever getting rid of this bike as it really has been bulletproof. There definitely are better hardtail mountain bikes out there, but for the price and frame alone, one would really be hard pressed to find a better option within the entry-level class. And don't let "entry level" put you off- I take my Hardrock to the Santa Monica mountains all the time! Sure, more effort is required in ascending steep hills while descending might not be as smooth as a bike with a 100mm fork & 29er wheels- but it does the job, and it does it perfectly. I make sure to take it to my local bike shop once a year for a tune up and have only felt fault in the cheap plastic peddles (that I replaced with metal ones).
I started biking about 4 months ago and started out with a used schwinn bike. After taking it down rough terrains, full of rocks and roots with sharp uphills and downhills, it literally fell apart piece by piece. After doing some research and with the help of the bike barn staff, i was pointed at this specialized hardrock bike. i kind of wanted something that can do it all with little hassle. this is my first actual mountain bike and after riding it down the trails, i cannot believe i didnt get this in the beginning. it handles extremely well and can take a hit on the rough terrains. the gearing is very smooth and the bike is fairly light. very durable! doesnt make any squeaks or noise when under great stress uphill or rough downhills. ive become a fan of specialized bikes and will only buy future bikes from this company.
